HISTORY:

Jaama Kennel was founded in 1984 by Ms. Mary Alderman. The show bug bit Mary when she purchased her first show quality Siberian Husky from Judy Russell of Karnovanda fame. His registered name was Karnovanda's Sky Blu Jakel , a name formulated from a combination of his parents CH. Karnovanda's Blak Jak and CH. Karnovanda's Elegance, but he was more fondly known as "Sky". While Sky was major pointed, he was never finished because he loved to chew on everything and busted a large number of his teeth. However, he did sire a very nice litter for JAAMA which produced 2 pointed and 1 champion get. This litter out of Sky and Karnovanda's Keystone Kit Kat produced JAAMA's first homebred champion CH. Jama's Sherlock Tunia Rose.

Then in early 1990 JAAMA expanded their horizons when a Whippet named Windsome's Couturier "Coco" was purchased from Gail Nichols in Gainesville, FL. Coco had a rocky beginning because of being transplanted in the middle of January to Ohio from the warm temperatures of Florida, but she quickly adapted to the Northern ways and settled in nicely. Coco lived happily as a lone Whippet amongst her hairy friends until March 1995 when she whelped a lovely litter of 5 babies. Coco no longer needed to be lonely because Mary kept two of her kids "Han" and "Ricki" . Shortly after that "Strada" joined the family and since that time a number of excellent Whippets have been added through the generosity of good friend Kerrie Kuper of Karasar Kennels. JAAMA is both proud and honored to have formed an affiliation with Karasar and "Karasar at Jaama" puppies are in the ring today. JAAMA now breeds exclusively Whippets and their dogs can be seen at AKC, CKC, and UKC shows and lure coursing events from coast to coast.
